Drum Group Services

John Belisle (MA-Counseling Psychology/BA-Psychology) has been caring for abused and neglected children as a clinical therapist for over 20 years. He has been providing individual, family and group counseling to severely traumatized children in a variety of settings.  He has developed a form of music therapy (Drum Groups) to help both children and adolescents heal their body, mind and spirit.  He has also utilized drum groups as a recreational/educational tool for children in schools, day cares, and residential treatment centers.

John began his professional career in Mass. as a protective social worker for Mass. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.  He then worked as a child abuse therapist at Herbert Lipton Mental Health Community (specializing in an outreach treatment program that worked with the family in their own home to prevent the placement of any children into state custody).  He then moved to a similar outreach program (COBIT) at The Providence Center (TPC) in Rhode Island.  John first began his Drum Groups in the self-contained classrooms for the TPC Early Childhood School for Behaviorally and Emotionally Disturbed Children.  John was then hired by Casey Family Services (a direct service arm of Anne E. Casey Foundation) providing cognitive/behavioral therapy in an intensive treatment based foster care program.  During his 17 years at CFS, John was able to utilize Drum Groups in educating and treating children and adults.

John's interest and appreciation of music is longstanding.  He has been a percussionist in several local rock and blues bands for over 20 years.  He has had the honor of playing with such great musicians as James Montgomery, Thomas Enwright, Paul Bouley, Marc Philip, Jimmy Devlin, Gary Caron and many more.

Besides earning a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and a BA Degree in Psychology from Assumption College.  John has acquired numerous certificates for an array of trainings in the fields of Psychology and Social Work.  He has specialized training working with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
